Loan Officer
Premier Farm Credit | Sterling, Colorado

Position Overview:


The Loan Officer is responsible for developing and managing agricultural lending relationships while providing exceptional service to Premier Farm Credit members. This position works with members to understand their financial needs, evaluate lending opportunities, structure appropriate loan solutions, and support sound portfolio growth. Depending on experience and strengths, the Loan Officer may have a greater focus on credit analysis, loan structuring, relationship management, or business development.


Working closely with the credit teams, the Loan Officer participates in loan origination, underwriting, servicing, portfolio management, and member relationship development. The position requires sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to balance member needs with appropriate credit standards and risk management practices. The Loan Officer plays an important role in delivering safe, sound, and constructive lending to Premier Farm Credit members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong, trusted relationships with existing and prospective customers, with a focus on understanding their businesses, financial goals, and borrowing needs.
  • Meet with customers to assess financial needs, identify lending opportunities, and recommend appropriate loan products and structures.
  • Originate, analyze, and manage agricultural and commercial loans in accordance with FCA Regulations and Association credit policies and procedures.
  • Manage an assigned loan portfolio, which may include a variety of loan sizes and levels of complexity, while maintaining strong credit quality and customer relationships.
  • Complete or support financial, credit, and collateral analysis, including property and collateral inspections and chattel reports, as appropriate to the role and level of experience.
  • Structure loans that appropriately balance customer needs, repayment capacity, risk, and Association lending standards.
  • Develop new business opportunities and contribute to portfolio growth through customer referrals, networking, community involvement, and other business development activities.
  • Stay informed about agricultural industry trends, commodity markets, economic conditions, and competitor activity that may affect customers and lending opportunities.
  • Collaborate with lending, credit, and operations teammates to support business development strategies, sound credit decisions, and overall Association goals.
  • Provide exceptional customer service throughout the loan application, approval, closing, and servicing processes.
  • Ensure loan documentation, servicing activities, and customer interactions are completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Represent Premier Farm Credit in the community and actively support the Association's mission to serve agriculture and rural communities.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of agricultural finance, credit analysis, loan structuring, and/or portfolio management is preferred.
  • Experience in agricultural lending, banking, finance, sales, agricultural business, or a related field is preferred; candidates with varying levels of experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand financial information and apply sound judgment when evaluating lending opportunities and structuring loans.
  • Passion for serving agriculture and a strong understanding of production agriculture and the communities served by the Association.
  • High degree of integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment, with a commitment to the cooperative values of the Farm Credit System.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Association's territory to support customers, conduct business development activities, and fulfill lending responsibilities.
  • Must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, the Association's territory or a neighboring community that provides convenient access to the territory.

  • Competitive compensation package with an annual team incentive opportunity. Actual compensation is based on qualifications and experience. Salary range from $55,000 - $130,000 depending on relevant experience.
    • Senior Loan Officer - typically 7+ years of relevant experience
    • Loan Officer - typically 2-6 years of relevant experience
    • Loan Officer Trainee - typically less than 2 years of relevant experience - trainees will receive structured training and progressively assume lending responsibilities based on demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience.
